How it works
Choose the supported file, configure any options shown for this job, run the tool, then download the generated result. Formatberry does not require an account.
Use OCR only when the PDF needs recognition
Use OCR when you cannot search or select useful text because the PDF pages are scans or images. If the document already contains selectable text, PDF to Text is usually the more direct extraction workflow and avoids an unnecessary recognition step.
OCR a scanned PDF to make text searchable
OCR PDF is intended for scanned or image-based PDF pages that do not already contain useful selectable text. The OCR engine analyzes page images and returns a searchable PDF so recognized text can be found and selected more easily while the page image remains the visual reference.
OCR accuracy depends on the source scan
Optical character recognition is not guaranteed transcription. Low resolution, blur, skew, unusual typography, handwriting, poor contrast and complex page layouts can reduce recognition accuracy. Review important names, numbers and other critical text against the original page before relying on OCR output.
When OCR is not the right tool
If the PDF already contains selectable digital text, PDF to Text is the more direct extraction path. OCR PDF is server-assisted because recognition runs in the isolated conversion service, where the selected file is handled ephemerally for the conversion.
Processing and privacy
This tool is server-assisted because its certified engine runs in an isolated conversion service. The selected file is transferred only for the conversion and is handled ephemerally under the production retention, sandboxing and logging controls.
