How it works

Choose the supported file, configure any options shown for this job, run the tool, then download the generated result. Formatberry does not require an account.

Extract text from a text-based PDF

PDF to Text reads selectable text from supported PDF pages and returns plain text. It is useful when the information already exists as digital text inside the PDF and you want a simpler text output for reuse, searching, note-taking or further processing. It does not convert the document into an editable replica of the original page layout.

Text extraction is different from OCR

If a PDF is only a scan or page image, there may be no digital text layer to extract. In that case use OCR PDF, which analyzes page images and recognizes text. OCR is a different process and its accuracy depends on scan quality, language, fonts and layout.

Choose plain text when layout is not the goal

PDF to Text is suited to copying, searching, note-taking or downstream text processing when the words matter more than page design. Choose PDF to Word instead when you need an editable document file with more structure than plain text.

PDF to Text runs locally

The extraction path is designed to run in your browser, so the selected PDF is not uploaded for this job. Plain-text output does not preserve visual formatting, exact columns, typography or page design, and reading order can vary in complex multi-column PDFs.

Processing and privacy

This tool is designed to process document data inside the browser. Its certified network behavior is intended to keep file bytes and derived document content on your device.
